Power to the People: The History of Community Energy
Community energy is more important than ever. It’s a grassroots movement powered by people like you, bringing clean, local energy to communities across the UK. Want to know how it all started & why it matters?

Westmill Wind and Westmill Solar Co-operatives are community-owned renewable energy co-ops with turbines and solar panels positioned on an organic farm in the South West of England. They have combined community energy memberships of 3,500 and generate renewable energy for around 5,000 homes. Westmill provides an opportunity for people who are concerned with the effects of climate change to become involved in the ownership and operation of a community-owned renewable energy model. Read about their recent members-driven Futures event.

Amelia Crews is an Energy Innovation Co-ordinator at Your Co-op Energy and is a youth climate activist.

The word on everyone's lips.
The word 'fracking' has been popping up everywhere recently, so what is it?
Fracking was stopped in the UK in 2019 due to increased pressure from environmental organisations and concerns about earth tremors resulting in earthquakes. Recently however, Liz Truss, the UK's ex Prime Minister, lifted the ban on fracking as part of her new energy strategy.
Update: The UK's new prime minister, Rishi Sunak, has said he will reimplement the ban on fracking within the UK.
