About Younity

Our story started in 2019 when Octopus Energy and The Midcounties Co-operative acted on a shared vision to support community-owned renewable energy. Merging innovation with co-operation, we were excited to be born and start helping the movement.

From challenges to solutions

By mobilising challenges into solutions, we exist to energise community energy and support the sector far and wide. They do this by connecting groups to:

  1. The energy market through competitive PPAs (no matter the volume of exported energy)

  2. Skilled volunteers through a volunteering platform, Community Energy Connect

  3. Loan and grant funding

We’ve long been the leading supporter of community power in the UK, and with the launch of Younity we want to go even further. In bringing together the technological capability and agility that Octopus Energy provides with the co-operative values and community generation experience of the Midcounties Co-operative, Younity is perfectly placed to grow the sector.

Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs)

We purchase power from 1/3rd of community-owned solar, wind and hydro in the UK by volume and offer prices to any group, no matter the size of their generation.

The energy is ring-fenced into Your Coop Energy's Community Power Tariff - powering homes with community energy

Community Energy Connect:

Through streamlining skilled individuals to community energy groups, Connect offers a platform to search for the skills your group needs/

Simply sign-up, post an opportunity and search for volunteers!

£1.5m Kickstart Loan:

Our £1.5m Kickstart Loan is available for projects in England, Scotland, and Wales that are building and managing local renewable energy to benefit the community. Helping to plug the finance gap during the construction phase, this loan helps to kickstart projects into fruition.

Powering Communities Fund:

All groups that either sell their energy to us or have received the Kickstart Loan are eligible to apply for grant funding. So far, we have distributed over £50K to 21 different groups

By funding and using local renewable power from the community, for the community, when the sun shines, the wind blows and rivers run, we can take the pressure off the national grid and save the world from using even more fossil fuels.
