A community energy group gathered in front of their renewable assets

Funding for Community Energy Groups

It’s no secret that community energy groups need more funding to develop and amplify their social impact projects…in fact, it came out top in responses submitted to the Barriers to Community Energy Call for Evidence in 2024. That's why we've gone above and beyond trying to support groups with as much funding as possible.

We've launched our Community Energy Kickstart loan, a £1.5m bridging loan used to boost projects and get them off the ground.

Our Powering Communities Fund is a grant scheme that supports groups across the country to make a real social impact in their communities.

Powering Communities Fund

This grant funding is possible through our partnership with Your Co-op Energy. We believe businesses and homes should be powered by community-produced energy.

For every new customer that switches to the Community Power tariff, we’ll add a tenner to the Powering Communities Fund pot. No questions, no quibbles… we love doing it.

So far, we’ve distributed £65,000 through 6 rounds of funding, directly benefiting 21 community energy projects!
