Voyage to Repower

North Kensington Community Energy

In 2024, we supported North Kensington Community Energy's Voyage to Repower course, designed to help young people aged 18–24—many not in education, employment or training, gain the skills and confidence to start a career in the green industries.

Project overview

North Kensington Community Energy ran these training programmes in partnership with Repowering London, dedicating the workshop to transforming the lives of young people across the capital in just 15 weeks.

About the project

Helping young people build skills for a greener future

This 12-week course covered everything from personal development and employability skills to inspiring sessions with green businesses and deep dives into areas like solar energy, retrofit, social media, and finance. Trainees explored the many routes into sustainability careers, with hands-on workshops, expert-led sessions, and the chance to build practical skills across a wide range of roles.

Supporting young people facing barriers to work

Repowering worked with local youth organisations and the Ladbroke Grove Job Centre to recruit a small group of young people—most living in RBKC and all either unemployed or in part-time work. The course helped boost self-esteem, grow confidence, and showed that sustainability careers aren’t just for engineers—there’s space for everyone, from finance to comms.

It's helped to increase my self-esteem, in terms of finding a job in the future...i'm already starting to notice what I'm good at!
