Solar for Schools
Ever thought we should be doing more in schools to teach kids about renewable energy, decarbonisation & taking care of our planet?
Well, that’s exactly what Solar for Schools thought too. Since 2015, they’ve been on a mission to give the next generation the skills they’ll need to take on the climate crisis.
Solar for Schools have been heading into primary & secondary schools across the country, running hands-on workshops all about energy, the environment, regeneration & decarbonisation.
And it doesn’t stop there—if the school’s up for it, they’ll even fund solar panels on site. They take care of everything—from design to development to installation—so kids can literally see renewable energy in action.
They’ve really nailed their operating model. Here’s how it works: a school gets the chance to have solar panels installed on its roof, use most of that clean energy on site, and any extra savings can be reinvested straight back into education. Win-win, right? But they also know that solar panels aren’t an option for every school—which is why they offer their educational workshops to anyone. All they want to do is educate & inspire the next generation.
Energy Education
We all know that inspiring kids in the classroom isn’t always easy—but Solar for Schools have cracked the code! They’ve created hands-on, tailor-made workshops that get students up close with solar tech, and the best part? They can see the results in real time through a custom-built app.
As part of the session, their expert educators bring along Solar Explorer Kits, which let the kids experience the impact of solar panels for themselves. And they didn’t stop there—they went one step further and built an interactive app where students can design a real solar panel system for their school, track its potential impact, and dive into learning modules all about solar power, electricity, the environment & more.
Their Impact
Solar for Schools have supported schools all over the UK, generating over 11,000,000 kWh of clean energy and saving more than 2,100 tonnes of CO2.But their impact goes way beyond the classroom. In November 2024, they took part in a parliamentary showcase, proving just how powerful their model is in driving sustainable education. Now, they’re working with 30 MPs to help fast-track the UK’s green energy transition.

Now that you’ve seen all the brilliant work Solar for Schools are doing, it’s easy to see why we’re so proud to partner with them. We support their projects by providing bespoke Power Purchase Agreements across their school sites, buying the solar energy they generate at a fair market price. Right now, we’re buying power from 77 schools—and we’re just getting started! Together, these schools are generating nearly 8MW of solar energy. That’s enough to power around 1,500 homes, or charge over 19 million iPhones for a whole year!
