Connecting groups with skilled volunteers

Hundreds of community energy organisations are reshaping the UK’s power system, building resilient and healthy energy communities.

Creating £9 worth of social benefit for every £1 spent, they are helping neighbours cut energy costs, retrofit homes and promote green energy.

But, with 80% of their work being volunteer-led, groups urgently need skilled support.

Enter Community Energy Connect.

A platform linking experts in law, finance, marketing, events and more with groups in need of extra hands.

Why we built Community Energy Connect at a Hackathon event

In 2023, we conducted interviews and focus groups up and down the country to explore the main challenges group face. Recruitment and management of volunteers was clearly a big challenge for lots of groups. Community Energy Connect emerged as a direct response to this.

Alongside research in the movement, we found a wider challenge. There was no clear call to action for the general public who can’t invest or set-up their own group. Community Energy Connect therefore, provides a simple way to mobilise skillsets and join a local movement.
